Woman charged after fire

A woman has been charged after allegedly lighting a fire inside a Morwell unit on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the Helen Street property on Thursday morning after reports of smoke coming from a ground-level unit.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

A 22-year-old Morwell woman was arrested and later charged with burglary and criminal damage.

She was released on bail and will appear before the Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court on July 30.

Morwell burglary

Detectives are investigating a burglary at Morwell which took place in March.

Police said the residential burglary took place between 7am and 6.30pm on Tuesday, March 20.

Items including cash and a number of electronic items were stolen from the property during the incident.

Morwell hold up

Police have released footage of the man who robbed Morwell McDonalds on Saturday, June 2.

Detectives said the man entered the store with a handgun before he made demands for money from the tills about 12.10am.

The cashier, a 26-year-old Morwell woman, handed over a sum of cash before the man fled on foot.

He was wearing ski googles with a scarf and was last seen heading north along Princes Drive.

He was also wearing a black hooded jumper with yellow trim around the hood and believed to be thinly-built and Caucasian in appearance, about 170 to 180 centimetres tall.
