IT was a huge week for the Peter Gelagotis stable.
Their headline act was Thursday's win in the Moe Cup held at Cranbourne with Savquaw taking the Cup.
This was followed on Sunday with the ultra impressive win of potential star stayer, Mr Marciano.
Big Col returned to form last Wednesday with an eye-catching third on Thousand Guineas Day at Caulfield.
Not even the transfer of the Moe Cup to Cranbourne due to heavy rain could foil the local victory, which as Gelagotis agreed, was full of merit.
``He didn't have the best of luck early, being caught wide and having to go forward,'' Gelagotis said.
``He had to do it at both ends of the race and then cart the field up to the leader in between, so it was a very gutsy performance.
``This bloke has some good form around good horses like Raffaello and Majestical and in the Cup he did what I thought he could do.
``Horses can't win every start, but I knew if he performed to his best he was right in this race.
``The fact we were able to strike a heavy track also helped.
``The horse runs well on top of the ground, but he is clearly superior on a wet track.''
Gelagotis said it depends on the weather not to see where Savquaw will go.
``He has had a few runs this preparation, so I won't push him too far, but if he can get conditions to suit we will look at giving him one or two more,'' he said.
Stable foreman and Gelagotis' brother, Manny, said ``this is what we wanted and this is the one we set him for.''
``From a racing point of view we would have rather it been in our home town, but those things are out of your control. We were initially disappointed when the meeting had to be transferred, but it has worked out well.
``He is a stakes placed horse and has a lot of ability and his best may yet be ahead.''
The victory took Savquaw's prize money earned past $200,000.
