Business end approaches

02 Jul, 2009 11:26 AM
ALL matches now take on an important role with finals football only seven rounds away.

The current top three positions look safe but there is going to be a major battle for fourth and fifth position.

Trafalgar and Mirboo North are all positive of their placing and Yarragon and Yinnar could make up the next position.

However, the challenge could come from Yallourn-Yallourn North (YYN) who are threatening but depend on teams above them to falter.

Mirboo North vs Yinnar

MIRBOO North and Yinnar clash in the match of the round and the result will have a bearing on the finals chance of either team.

The Tigers won by nine points in their previous match but this time Mirboo North should win by a greater margin.

Although beaten by Morwell East last week, the Tigers will bounce back.

There was talk some of their injured players and some past players returning to the team.

Yinnar are in no doubt that this match will be a challenge for them and a win would upset the Tigers' plans for the finals.

YYN vs Boolarra

AFTER its disappointing performance against Yinnar last week, YYN will bounce back and inflict another beating on Boolarra.

The Demons struggled last weekend scoring only one goal and their reserves were well beaten while the thirds failed to play.

Tim Phillips appears to have recovered from his injury and will be a focal point for the Bombers who should have too much ability for Boolarra.

Thorpdale vs Morwell East

THORPDALE have the tough task of inflicting Morwell East with its first loss.

This will be an unlikely scenario as the Hawks appear to be outright favourites, not only for this match but the flag.

Thorpdale should show some good football throughout the match against the East.

They last faced off under pelting rain on Anzac Day and the Hawks won by 54 points and a repeat of the margin is possible.

Newborough vs Yarragon

NEWBOROUGH and Yarragon will put on a good battle.

Both were winners last weekend and would want to repeat that effort.

Yarragon won the last encounter by 18 points and while in good form should take the match.

However Newborough should expect to have a couple of players back who could make a difference.

Hill End vs Trafalgar

HILL End host Trafalgar for the Balfour Trophy and as one-sided as this game looks it may be closer than anticipated.

The Bloods got their magic together last weekend to score one of their biggest scores, while Hill End were harassed by a savage Bulldog combination.
