Gafa hot favourite

10 Feb, 2012 11:00 AM
AMONG the cyclist favoured to win the Bob Whitford Memorial Wheel race include Traralgon's Danny Gafa who is in sizzling form.

The 2000-metre handicap, named after the former top Victorian Cyclist, will be held at Bob Whitford Cycling Track, Newborough, on Sunday as part of the Latrobe City Cycling Club's annual TRUenergy Carnival.

Moe's Wayne Collins and past winner Michael Krausz are also in the mix, as is local top women's track cyclist Shannon McCurley

Glenn Trevorrow is also showing good form and will be right in the finish.

Of the expected visiting riders two-time place getter Brett Rollinson from Warragul is in with a strong chance, as is fellow Warragul rider and last year's winner Brenton Jones.

The dark horse could come from Wellington Cycling club rider Nick Jehu who has been tearing up the tarmac recently.

This year the carnival will feature a three-lap sprint derby for the under 17s and some under 15 events.

There will be 22 events on the program ranging from scratch, elimination, keirins and motor pace scratch races along with the two feature events.

Entry for spectators is free.

For information phone Wayne Tunks on 5127 5714.
