 Cobras charge in

Cobras charge in

02 Nov, 2009 08:55 AM
THREE games went down to the wire as round four of TDCA produced some thrilling finishes.

The match of the round between Toongabbie and Churchill certainly lived up to expectation.

Chasing the Rams' 192, Churchill were in early trouble losing three wickets and sitting on 16 runs.

Brad Wright (21) and David Metlikovec (27) took the score to 51.

A 47-run fifth wicket stand between John Keighran and Metlikovec steadied the Cobras at 5/95.

Toongabbie was elated when the key wicket of Keighran went for 52 to leave Churchill floundering at 8/145, still needing 47 to win.

In an absolute nailbiter, Stan Urbanic 25* and Steve Ware (22) got Churchill to within one run of victory.

At 9/191 and with one run needed for victory, Churchill scrambled home for a great win.

Tom Shippen bowled 30 overs to be the Rams' best with 4/65.

Hurricain Devils v Raiders

CHASING a mammoth 266, the Hurricain Devils were in early trouble when they were sitting on 2/24.

A 87-run third wicket stand between Leigh Fabris (67) and Chris Taylor (36) took the Devils to 111.

With Fabris and Taylor both gone, Hurricain needed to get another big partnership going.

Cain Logan (32), Brad Adams (22) and Jamie Scammell (20) got starts but couldn't land the knockout punch as the Devils fell 25 runs short to be all out for 241.

In a match winning performance, Chris Stanlake backed up his century last week with bowling figures of 4/44 and Tom Cant bowled 38 overs to take 4/76.

Ex-Students v T'gon West

TRARALGON West faced a daunting 256 and was disappointing after being skittled for 112.

Only Luke Phillips with 31 and Andy McMahon's 17 runs showed any resisitance as the early season premeirship favourites produced a stunning demolition in 46 overs.

Rob Voss (4/22) and Andy Mathews (4/19) were Ex-Students' best.

Traralgon West was sent back in to chase.

West were in big trouble at 7/52, but with 12 overs remaining the storm came and washed out the last hour.

Centrals v Glengarry

ANOTHER unexpected thriller took place at Apex Park between Centrals and Glengarry.

With Glengarry needing another 60 runs to win with all wickets in hand, no-one would have foreseen what was to happen.

When the first wicket fell at 51 Glengarry needed 39 to win.

But at 9/86 with three runs needed Centrals were staring at the most unlikely victory.

As the pressure mounted Frank Marks (23*) and Paul Hegarty scrambled through to get Glengarry home.

Shaun Perks was Centrals' best with 4/20.

CATS v Rovers

CATS 219 defeated Rovers 10/122.
