MORWELL Cricket Club's women's team will play for its fourth Gippsland Cricket League premiership in a row when it hosts the Bairnsdale Cricket Association's representative side in Morwell on Sunday.
After having successfully negotiated the 2009-10 home and away season without a loss, Morwell will go in as firm favourites, however, the unpredictable Bairnsdale side should provide stern opposition.
Bairnsdale will look to captain Becky Stevens to score the bulk of its runs and will want solid contributions from Kelly Farley, Fiona Morrison, Emma Gallagher and Paula Dean if it is to win.
Morwell's bowlers will be led by first-year player Lynda Walker, Robin Fitzpatrick, skipper Jane Bone, Michelle Williams and young guns Ashlee Bone and Emily Shaw.
When it comes to Morwell's batting there is no doubt Fitzpatrick is the key, with 300 runs in the bank for the season, as an opener.
She will look for opening partner Kirby Mathieson to offer support, then it will be up to former league Cricketer of the Year Bone to put the willow to good use.
Morwell bat well down and will look to Williams, Walker, AJ Bury and Belinda Battillana among others to have an impact.
Bairnsdale has struggled to breakthrough the Morwell batting line-up so far this year but Stevens, Gallagher, Hayley Fleming and Farley will do their utmost with the ball to restrict the home side.
The 40-over per innings match starts at 11am at Keegan Street, Morwell.
