DUNCAN Ireland had a kick of the footy with son Miller this week, in preparation for his 300th senior game with Trafalgar Football Club on Saturday.
Ireland told The Express on Tuesday his nerves about the milestone had settled but he looked forward to the clash against Hill End.
The 35 year-old has a long history with Trafalgar, and has played as a senior since 1992.
``It's good to sit back and reflect on everything over the years,'' Ireland said.
``I was nervous last week thinking something might happen and I might not get there.
``But it should be a good game.''
Ireland will become the third player to clock up 300 games for the club in its 121 year history.
Record holder Brian Sim hit 330 games while Geoff `Spud' McMillan made it to 303.
Progressing through the junior ranks, Ireland made his senior debut in 1992 and was a member of the reserve premiership side that season.
He played in four consecutive senior grand finals for premierships in 1994 and 1995 and served as club secretary from 1997 to 1998.
Ireland captained the 1999 MGFL interleague side, was elected senior captain in 2001 and won club best and fairest the same year and was senior coach from 2002 to 2004.
Three successive grand final losses from 2001 to 2003 eventually took their toll and he left Trafalgar in 2007 for a season with Buln Buln, but returned last season to play in yet another grand final loss.
``I had so much success early on, I thought it would keep going but it didn't, so I see it as a good challenge.''
A testimonial evening will be held at the club social rooms on 18 July to reflect on Ireland's career.
All former team mates and supporters are welcome to attend.
