HARMONY within oneself is the key to world peace, a group of international runners shared with Stockdale Road Primary School students yesterday.
The World Harmony Run, which consists of a dozen runners from all over the world, travelled though Traralgon on its New Zealand, Australian and Asian tour.
Students were asked to hold the runner's torch and imagine 100 other torches travelling around the world while making a wish for a happy and peaceful world.
Now in its third decade, the World Harmony Run is one of the world's largest grassroots efforts for peace.
The torch has visited more than 140 countries.
Spokesperson and runner from Perth Veeraja Uppal said the runners in their group, from Germany, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Singapore and Australia, paid their own way and did not run to raise money.
``We run only to raise awareness of harmony and remaining active,'' Mr Uppal said.
Prep teacher Jacquie Thomas said her students really embraced the meaning of the run.
``They said they understood the run was to make people know they shouldn't fight,'' Ms Thomas said.
``Some of the students wanted to join them on their next run.''
The Australian leg finishes in Canberra and will then travel to Indonesia.
The World Harmony Run was founded in 1987 by the late peace visionary Sri Chinmoy who dedicated his life to advancing the ideals of world friendship and oneness.
