THIRTEEN of the 15 students and two teachers held in quarantine in China because of swine flu have been discharged and will return home tonight.
The staff and students are from Flinders Christian Community College's Traralgon campus were placed in quarantine last Thursday after a passenger on their fight was diagnosed with the virus.
Executive principal Jill Healey said the school was unsure of the discharge date for the two students in hospital, but expected it to happen during the weekend.
``A teacher will remain behind to accompany them home as soon as they are cleared,'' she said.
``They are being well cared for in hospital, but of course they are looking forward to being discharged as soon as possible.''
Ms Healey said the students and staff that were discharged were transported to their hotel and would get some shopping time in before their flight home.
``The students are very excited to have been released,'' she said.
``It has been disappointing for them to miss out on
their educational tour and it has been frustrating
spending time in quarantine, but they have made
the best of the circumstances.
``They are now looking forward to getting home to
their families.
``The school families are very grateful to the Australian Consulate in Shanghai and to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canberra for their wonderful support, care and attention given to the students.''
She said the school would continue to provide care and support for the two students who remain in hospital.
``The school, in partnership with the Gippsland Emergency Management coordinator, has made preparation to support the students on their return,'' Ms Healey said.
