Region's bright mind

06 Jul, 2010 09:45 AM
FORMER Morwell resident Renee Carr is one of 100 Australian youths who have been selected for this year's `Brightest Young Minds' summit.

The summit brings together some of the country's most talented, dynamic and creative young people to share dialogue about some of the most crucial issues facing society.

Renee was selected for the summit for her leadership role in youth and non-government organisations, in particular her work with The Global Poverty Project and the Live Below the Line campaign.

Live Below the Line is a new Australian initiative which raises awareness of the obstacles inherent in extreme poverty.

It invites Australians to feed themselves with just $2 a day - the Australian equivalent of the extreme poverty line.

``1.4 billion people in our world currently lack the basic choices and opportunities that most Australians take for granted,'' Renee said.

``Live Below the Line offers us the opportunity to understand some of these challenges, and fund life-changing education programs.''

Renee will take part in the Live Below the Line challenge this August. She encouraged Latrobe Valley residents to join her.
