POLICE are conducting two unrelated drug investigations at a Latrobe Valley high school after students were found in possession of cannabis on campus.
Morwell police Constable Jason Richardson said police were called to Kurnai College Morwell campus to investigate two separate incidents on 14 October.
He said police spoke to ``a number'' of students who originally denied knowledge of the drugs.
But he said police received further information which revealed ``a few specific students'' had been in possession of the marijuana.
Police believe the drugs were taken to the school by one student and passed to other students before being confiscated by teachers, he said.
``They have since been charged or cautioned for drug related possession offences and dealt with accordingly by the school,'' Const Richardson said.
A 13 year-old will face a Children's Court charged with possession of cannabis, with possible further charges pending, he said.
It is unclear what quantity of cannabis was confiscated.
Const Richardson said he could not comment on how many students were involved with the investigation or what year levels they were in.
Kurnai College principal Anthony Rodaughan told The Express investigations were ongoing and he could not comment on the case, but he said the school had responded to the ``serious'' incident.
He said the students involved would be counselled, and disciplined when the investigation was completed.
``The college has dealt with the matter using the Department of Education's Student Engagement Policy Guidelines new series of protocols,'' Mr Rodaughan said.
``All students and their parents have been in to the school and a full range of counsellors and support people have been involved in dealing with this serious incident.
``Serious disciplinary action including expulsion will form part of the end result of the investigation.
``The focus of the investigation, rather than being necessarily punitive has been with regard to the wellbeing of the entire school community and the individual students' needs.''
Mr Rodaughan said all of the students involved would participate in an alcohol and substance awareness course.
``That's one element of the support that will be underpinning the action students are going through,'' he said.
