BOOLARRA and district women are finding unique ways to heal from the devastation of January's bushfires.
The 18-women-strong quilting group, A Stitch in Time, has nearly completed its major project, a quilt representing the community's journey through bushfire.
Burnt trees, wildlife and messages of hope have been sewn and stitched together by the women, some of whom have no quilting experience.
``We've seen how amazing it is when people come together and nurture each other and by the end of the day there's laughter in the air again,'' group co-ordinator and artist Meg Viney said.
The group has been meeting for nine weeks and was funded by Arts Victoria as part of its bushfire recovery program.
``We started from a groundswell of healing,'' she said.
``The first day people told their stories and there were tears.
``Then there was a real feeling of love and care and a sense of belonging, they can all heal one another.''
Ms Viney said Arts Victoria funding for the group would run out this week but Latrobe City Council had offered funding for classes to continue until the end of the year as part of the Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund.
